Is Elgart Effective In The Treatment Of Prostate Cancer?
Hello. My husband has advance prostate cancer. He started bicalutamide 50 mg today. The doctor wants to do lupron injections in a month. Here is the question. Can he take this injection and change to Elgart. We winter in another state and the urologist in the other state used elgart.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Lupron Injection is composed of leuprolide acetate, which is a synthetic gonadotropin-releasing hormone that is used in men to treat symptoms of prostate cancer. Eligard injection is also composed of leuprolide. The manufacturer of Eligard sells subcutaneous injections in four different doses to be taken every 1, 3, 4 or 6 months. The Lupron is available in two forms: subcutaneous injections for daily use or Lupron Depot as a long-acting intramuscular injection for 1, 3 and 4 months use. Eligard shot is given into the stomach area and the lupron is given on to the gluteal region. You may take whichever is convenient for you by seeking advice from your doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
