Aged Person With Spinal Stenosis. Numbness In Left Leg, Pain. Took Lot Of Injections. Which Is Better Laminectomy Or Laser?

Hi Docs,
I'm a 55 year old male with Spinal Stenosis. Been to Rothman in Philly, Geisinger in Danville, Pa and now considering Spinal Laser surgery, less invasive. Numbness in left leg, pain throughout l-1 to l-5. Had nine injections so far into facets....trying to avoid surgery with PT and injections. What would you consider a better course to take, Laminectomy or laser?

Thanks,

Henry

Neurologist 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.
The decision to choose between laminectomy and laser would depend on symptoms, as well as MRI spine findings.
If the canal stenosis is mild, then, laser may be useful. However, if the spinal stenosis is severe, then, laminectomy would be preferred.

Best wishes,
Dr Sudhir Kumar MD DM (Neurology)
