Altered Blood Pressure And Low Heart Rate After Severe Exercise. Need Medical Check Up?
Hi, I am a 47 year old female in EXCELLENT physical condition. I exercise regularly~every day. I am not overweight . After a 3 hour x-country ski outing today, while waiting at the pharmacy, I checked my blood pressure . It was 88-systolic and 39-diastolic with a pulse of 74. Should I be concerned and go to my regular doctor for further assessment? Thank you. :)
It would best to go to your doctor for an assessment. There are many factors that can affect a blood pressure reading including the machine itself, volume depletion, reduction in some electrolytes such as sodium, side effects of medication.
Low blood pressure may be accompanied by symptoms such as dizziness and palpitations.
Your doctor may have an entirely different reading, if the repeat reading is also low and you have symptoms then treatment would be considered. If you do not have any symptoms then, in some cases, treatment may not be necessary.
Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
It is good that you are physically fit, regular exercise is good, sudden undue exercise may have caused vasodialatation and dehydration which is possible cause, but you do not have any symptom to suggest ;low Blood pressure just to make sure recheck in both arms as there is some difference in two arms.
Take plenty of fluid and salt which will bring BP to normal range.
If it is possible get ECG done just to rule out any cardiac issues.
If your normal BP is not achieved and you have any thing to suggest there may be problem please go to your Physician and full examination and if required investigation for cause.
Hope you will recover soon.
Take care
Good Luck.
Hi,
Athletes are having low blood pressure and decreased heart rate. If you are having no symptoms such as weakness or apprehension then there is no need to worry. Perform an ECG to rule out any heart blocks.
I hope I am sucessful in soloving your query if you have more you can ask me
Thanks
Regards,
Dr. Azhar Sattar
