Altered Taste In The Mouth. Could It Be Related To A Nose Injury?
I took a hard hit to my nose. Grandaughter was in shopping cart and I bent over to kiss her. She came up and her head hit me in the nose so hard that I almost passed out. This happened a couple of months ago.
About 3 weeks ago my food started tasting nasty. Was wondering if you think there is any connection.
When I took the hit to the nose I heard something crack.
The doctor had me get an ex ray of my nose and had me get a cat scan done but he says it shows nothing.
The sequence of events described by you could be suggestive of the following. Olfaction or sense of smell is sometimes affected during injury to nose. It can present clinically as loss of taste as much of the component of taste involves the perception of sense of smell in identifying the flavor. You need not be alarmed, as the condition could improve over the course of time too. But I suggest you visit an ENT specialist so that he can thoroughly examine your nose and conduct some tests on taste and smell to rule out such conditions and give appropriate treatment advice. Hope this helps.
