Am I Compelled To Take Lipitor For High Cholesterol While I'm Not Overweight?
Hi there, I live in NEW ZEALAND and I have just had my cholesterol blood tests .....RESULTS ARE: CHOL=6.1mmol/L Trig=o.4mmol/L HDL=1.76mmol/L Chol/HDL ratio=3.5 LDL=4.2mmol/L I Had just finished a low carb diet when these tests were taken (NOV'13)....I am not overweight and I exercise daily....I am 50 yrs old female................... My doctor is telling me that I have to go on Lipitor (statin)..................I want to have particle size tests done on my CHOLESTEROL but it seems that she doesnt think that would help...what can I DO? I am not sure if New Zealand even has these tests available. I really do not want to take drugs given that I don't have a weight issue , I am not diabetic and I don't smoke. Help :-?
Hello, I think your doctor is right that you need to take statin. Other test will not required as they cannot help in the treatment. High cholesterol is not ALWAYS related to your weight or diabetes or smoking, it can be genetic. High LDL level is independent predictor of cardiovascular risk, so statin is necessary. I would also advice to take low fat diet, do exercise walnuts and almonds are also helpful. Take opinion from your dietician. Hope this will help
