Am I Diabetic ?

I just had blood work done and my fasting blood sugar level was 133. I am male, 62 years old, non-smoker, non-drinker and I subscribe to a vegetarian diet . My triglyceride level is at 173, my cholesterol level is 173 as well. My BMI is within normal range for my height. I have been experiencing a sharp, needle-like pain in my ankle area for the past 3 years and I have noticed that my blook sugar level has increased each year. Am I diabetic?

Hello,
I recommend you check the level of hemoglobin A1C and do a random blood sugar test. You will be considered diabetic if the random blood sugar was more than 200. Besides, the diagnosis will be confirmed if the level of hemoglobin A1C is 6.5 or more.

Hello.welcome.Fasting plasma venous glucose of 126 mg% or more on more than one occasion is sufficient for diagnosis of diabetes even in the absence of symptoms.A two hour venous plasma glucose of 200mg% or more after oral glucose load of 75 gms on more than one occasion is again diagnostic of diabetes. So get your diabetes confirmed and then go for the treatment.Good luck.

Hi,
Thanks for query,
With only fasting blood sugar one can not stamp diabetes.
Go for fasting,Post lunch and Hb1c blod level.
Reading of all levels one can have clue about diabetes.
Hb1c level is important as it gives average 4 months blood sugar level.
Your problem of having pain on ankle may be due to osteo artheritis changes in the joint.consult orthopedic and get examined.
Ok and bye.
