Am Off Depo. Irregular Periods. Now Had Brownish/red Discharge. Have Headaches, Back Pain, Cramps, Breast Discharge. Suggestions?

Hi, I've been off the depo shot for over 4 months now, I haven't had a 'normal period' since dec 2010! I conceived my son in feb 2011 without a period. He's nearly 2 years old now. I had my last injection in jan 2013, so the effectiveness should have worn off around April. My periods have always been irractic & vary from 13 day cycles to 1 a year! My question is - around nearly a week ago I had a random 2 days brownish/red discharge. I thought it was my body just waking up again after the depo but after the 2 days it stopped. From then on I have had a white stringy discharge constantly in my undies. I have had headaches & lower back pain, cramps & milky discharge from my breast (I've had the discharge a while) so could I be pregnant? I haven't done a test because I assume the depo would take forever to leave my system!? Me & my husband would love another bundle of joy so any advice would be greatly appreciated :) thanks Suzie x

Hello Suzie and welcome.

Birth control has very often resulted in menstrual abnormalities and I would thus advice the following tests for you to start off with: blood test to check on your hormone levels, a transvaginal ultrasound, a pap smear and a urine examination. Some of your symptoms also match that of an infection, which is also one very common cause for menstrual irregularities. So please go about the above mentioned investigations and I am sure we can find the cause for your presentation.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
