Ankle Sore After Falling. Swelling, Bruise Under Knee Cap. Pain On Applying Pressure, Numb To Touch. Cause?
Hi, I took a pretty hard fall 2 days ago rolling my right ankle, which is still very sore, but my real concern is my left knee. I smashed it pretty hard on the edge of the sidewalk, just under my knee cap. There is some swelling and a bruise, but I'm more concerned about the numbness. It feel very strange when I walk, as if it is someone else's knee, and deep pain when I apply pressure to the knee, but it is numb to the touch. What could be causing this? Should I go to the doctor?
Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hi and welcome to HCM
From description it seems to be soft tissue injury . Numb to touch might be due to injury to superficial nerve fibres. You need an x-ray to rule out any bony injury. I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance.Beside icing and elevating it, you can take anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation. Avoid putting weight and rest well.
Hope this will helps you. Take care.
