Ankle Sprained, Walk While Limping, Using Crutches. How Long To Use?

Hey I've learned trhough expirience not to be lazy from now on. I was sitting, desk turned toward a friend, during science class, when instead of moving my stuff out of the way to walk around it hopped over my desk and landed wrong on my left ankle. Yes i got a sprained ankle and it has popped a few times and it hurts worse near the actual ankle bone. there is no break because i can still "walk on it" persay. More like a limp. It hurt so bad i decided to use crutches th next day so as not to put to much pressure on it when i walk. Walking isnt the problem here. The problem is when i sit down for a while and get back up. My ankle usually gives out with a painful jab and im limping away on one foot whimpering and finally gingerly put my foot back down. So i use the crutches for that.
However my classmates think im faking it and shoot me dirty looks and my favorite teacher Mr. B hurt his leg and looks to be in more pain than i am. I dont want to look like a weakling and keep using my crutches so how long do i have to stay on my crutches so i dont look like im faking nor over dramatic?

HI
Thank for asking to HCM
For rapid recovery you will have to take complete bed rest with elevated foot for at least 10 days, with drug NSAID this will reduce the soft tissue inflammation, if you dont follow this instruction then it may takes two to three week, however the entire condition is depend upon the severity of sprain, take care.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. K. Naga Ravi Prasad's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Based on the description and your symptoms, I suspect that you might have injured the ligamentous supports around the ankle causing the ankle to give way during movements. A simple grade 1 sprain needs atleast 3 weeks of immobilization in a splint for it to heal. More severe sprains may need surgical intervention.

If left untreated, this condition may lead to severe degenerative arthritic changes in your ankle joint leading to disability.

I suggest you to undergo MRI scan of the ankle joint to define the extent of damage to the soft tissues around the ankle joint.

Management will depend on the condition diagnosed.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
