Hello,
thanks for using health care magic
According to WHO, management of post-exposure after a canine bite is depended on the category of exposure and if the dog has a
vaccination history and if it survives the next 10 days after the biting.
-category I – touching or feeding animals, licks on the skin
-category II - nibbling of uncovered skin, minor scratches or abrasions without bleeding, licks on broken skin
-category III – single or multiple transdermal bites or scratches, contamination of
mucous membrane with saliva from licks;
In category I, adequate cleaning is sufficient. In category II, in addition to cleaning, immediate vaccination is required. For category III, immediate vaccination, intramuscular
antibodies and cleaning is needed. The post exposure vaccination consists of 4 or 5 injections scheduled over a period of four weeks.
When the post exposure is followed correctly, the chances of developing
rabies are limited or rare.
Dogs that die after within 10 days following the bite are highly contagious and dogs that are up to date with their vaccination are less likely to be contagious.
Hope this helps you
Best regards
