I'm a 61 year old and just had a septoplasty done on me. Normally, after a week the stuffiness goes away. However, in my case, it's now two weeks and it is still there and my mucus membrane is still swollen. My physician stated the swelling has decreased, but not at the rate it normally does. He checked and stated there is no septal hamatoma, which is good, but mentioned perhaps it could be a blood clot, but maybe not. He stated we could stick a needle in the area, but advised against it and basically told me to be patient. Should I really be concerned? I'm following up with him every week and he is a very good and concerned ENT physician. Also, is this common that a blood clot could form and what is usually the treatment and how long to recover from sticking a needle in and draining it?
