Any Suggestion For Not Finding Fetus Or Heartbeat During Six Weeks Pregnancy?

I just went to the Dr. and I am six weeks four days pregnant. They found a Sac & Yolk, however, couldn't find a fetus or heartbeat. The Dr. mentioned that it was attached low in my uterus, but did not explain the comment. Is that dangerous? Do you think it was to early for an ultrasound?

Hello and thanks for using HCM,

I am Dr Nilajkumar a consultant gynecologist and I will be helping you in your queries.

If there is no baby at 6 weeks there are two possibilities. The first is that the conception occurred later than what is calculated from the menstrual period date. So the baby is smaller than expected. Second possibility is that it is a missed abortion meaning that the baby has aborted inside the uterus. In both the cases a follow up ultrasound two weeks later will clear matters. In delayed conception the baby will show a growth of 2 weeks and heart beat will be visible. In missed abortion, there will be no growth and the scan may remain the same or may show a sac smaller than even 6 weeks. There are chances of bleeding during the 2 weeks period in missed abortion.

For similar women in my clinic I advice folic acid tablets and progesterone tablets. A follow up scan after 2 weeks is done for final diagnosis.
