Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been on 40mg of amphetamine for lack of cognative function for 8 years. This my have been an accurate diagnosis or may be due to other drugs I m on or lack of sleep. I was researching amphetamine class drugs and was socked to find how dangerous amphetamine class drugs react with just about everything else. I immediately began slowly reducing my 40mg to 15mgs, by 5mg per week dosages. But l ve hit a brick wall. Anything lower causes that old familiar missed a dose withdrawal, climb the walls reaction. My Dr. is useless. Can you help.
Based on the history you have shared, you are suffering from cognitive problems secondary to inadequate dose of amphetamines. Donot taper your medication without consulting your doctor as after longterm usage withdrawal could be hazardous.
Plus amphetamines are dangerous but for those who take it as a drug to get relax only. You are taking it as a medication and your disease is well controlled so I wouldn’t recommend you to taper the dose without doctor’s prescription.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin
