Dear Dr. I injured my left ear drum a decade back. I saw ENTs in Delhi who performed audiometry tests and concluded that there was minor hearing loss, hence didn t prescribe surgery at that time. Now the perforation in the ear drum hasn t healed itself and is now almost 60% of the total. Recently, I developed severe ear pain in the same ear and saw a doctor, who said type 1 tympanoplasty is needed immediately. Second opinion from another doctor said both tympanoplasty and mastoidectomy are required, but only after infection is controlled. X-ray revealed that some infection has spread to middle ear. I am prescribed Cantobiotic ear drops and augmenting duo 625 mg to control infection and combiflam for spin relief. Initially there was a lot of reddish white discharge but it has now reduced significantly. But when I use Cantobiotic ear drops, it gives me a lot of burning sensation which lasts for 5 mins. I want to confirm whether I am on the right medical course or not. Please advise.
