Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 15 year old is suffering from Typhoid. He was given medication for viral as doctors thought so earlier but was diagnosed as Typhoid in the blood test. I am giving him cefix-O and combiflam but fever comes back again in 6 hours after shivering. Please suggest?
The use of Cefixime for typhoid infection is off label. I would rather prefer to use Azithromycin (available as oral suspension 100/200mg per 5ml) since it has documented high effectiveness in Typhoid infections in children aged 3-17yrs. The dosage for children is 10mg/kg/day(not to exceed 500mg per day) once daily before meals. As per management of fever I would suggest you use plain paracetamol (500mg up to 3/4 times a day ) rather than combiflam. It is the safest drug for management of fever
