Are Decolic Drops Advisable For An Infant Suffering With Vomiting?
My baby is two months old. Entirely on breastfeed. Was vomiting the entire feed since last 3 nights at 11pm via nose. I gave domstal drops 6 drops thrice. Today he was very cranky since morning. No domstal today. No vomiting but just spitting few spoons. Was crying throughout. Neighbor suggested Decolic. Gave him 3 drops. He was quiet. Had feed n went to sleep. Is Decolic safe? How many times and wgen can we use it??
Decolic is combination of antispasmodic and gas reducing agent which can help some fussy babies having infantile colic or excessive flatulence. Giving once or twice in a while won't cause much trouble. But often, this drug is misused for each and every crying baby without definite indication.
Some vomiting and regurgitation after feed is common in infants. This is normal and need no treatment, provided it is not severe and baby is gaining weight as expected. This is from immaturity of lower esophageal sphincter.
Feeding in sitting position with head end up, burping for 10-25 minutes after each feeds, and avoiding sleeping immediately after feed- all these measures will help reducing this to some extent.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
