Are Klonopin And Anafranil Advisable For Asperger S Syndrome And OCD?
my son has aspergers syndrome and severe obsessive compulsive disorder. he also has alot of anxiety. he is on klonopine and anafanil. are these good drugs for this or are there better ones? the doctor put him on straterra this week and he dont seem as anxious and his obsessive compulsive disorder seems better. can this help. he is 30 YYYY@YYYY
Hi As per the diagnosis mentioned by you the choice of medication seems correct to me. Clomipramine (anafranil) helps reduce the obsessions and compulsions effectively and also causes sedation thus reducing anxiety. Clonazepam (klonopin) is a very commonly used molecule for anxiety relief and has a long duration of action making it suitable for a once daily use. There might be some attentive deficits in your child perhaps, for which the doctor has chosen to use Atomoxetine (strattera) along with the above medications. The only thing to be aware of with this drug is its effect on reducing appetite and causing changes in liver metabolism. Atomoxetine has no effect on obsessions and compulsions. Nonetheless, if the child is comfortable and the symptoms have resolved, there is nothing to worry about.
