Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that your husband has a deep decay in his tooth leading to severe pain due to nerve inflammation and irritation..
As far as taking Nitrofurantoin in concerned, it is an antibiotic that is advised to relieve urinary tract infection and is not used for dental infections, therefore if you want to give him antibiotics you can give Amoxicillin, Augmentin, Cindamycin etc..
For pain you can give Ibuprofen, Diclofenac and in case of extreme pain Tramadol or Ketorolac can be advised..
In such an extensive pain condition taking antibiotics and painkillers can provide only temporary relief and he needs to consult a dentist soon and get evaluated and an x ray can help in diagnosis..
In case if tooth can be saved Root Canal Treatment can be done to remove infection, relieve pain as well as save the tooth..
In case of extensive decay extraction is the only resort left..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
