Are Pantocid DSR And Vyzylac Advisable For A Person With GERD?

Dear Dr, I am 69 and suffering from GERD. [I am also Diabetc and Hypertensive but that is ubnder control with medication, In the past I had an angio done which was also normal except some calicifaction.] For GERD my Dr. has prescribed the following: Petocid DSR 01 BBF 3 Weeks Pentocid 20 01 Before Dinner 3 Weeks Vyzilac 01 AF Lunch 10 Days 01 AF Dinner 10 Days I shal be grateful if you may kindly let me know if the medicines prescribed are OK? Hi & Welcome to HCM.
Pantocid DSR is a combination of Pantoprazole & Domperidone which is very effective in suppressing the acid production, preventing the acid reflux and promoting the healing of the damaged lining of the oesophagus (food pipe) in patients suffering from gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD).
Whereas Vizylac cap which contains multivitamins & Lactobacillus spores is prescribed to overcome the deficiency of certain vitamins and to prevent bacterial infection that can occur with the use of Pantoprazole.
The usual recommended dosage of Pantocid DSR is one tablet or capsule to be taken once daily before breakfast or twice daily (second dose before dinner) if there's no response to once-daily dosing for at least 4-6 weeks.
To achieve maximum beneficial effect, it should be taken 30-60 minutes before eating.
The prescribed medications are OK.
Along with the medications, you need to have certain lifestyle changes such as smoking cessation, avoidance of excess dietary fat, and weight reduction (if you are overweight & obese). Avoid late meals & elevate head of bed if suffering from nighttime heartburn.
