Are Polaramine, Atarax And Wysolone Advisable For Itchy Rashes?

Hello Doc My wife suffering from skin rashes or skin allergy for last 6 days. It would start as a small lump anywhere say below arm or back or knee etc and would grow worse.Sooner there is an outbreak of cluster of red lumps with huge itching that is unbearable. As a result, there are swellings or inflammation all over including head, face and legs. The dermatologist earlier had diagnosed 1 tab of Alaspan at Morning and 1 tab of Polaramine 2mg at night.Later, on signs of very little improvement, he changed it to 2 tab of Polaramine 2mg at morning and night and 1 tab of Atarax 25 mg at noon after lunch. Also suggested to take Wysolone 10 mg on SOS basis at night if required. My wife is depending on steroids for relief but the effect of medication or rather sedation seems to be short lived. Its very disgusting for her with the itching. My fear is whether she is having the rt medication or if the dosage is ample. She takes Thyronorm 10 mg tab once daily since Oct 15 and at one time also had low haemoglobin.( Now it is around 10.2 from 6.2 at one stage) Any suggestions or remedy and feedback shall be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Allergist and Immunologist 's  Response
Hi,

The medication prescribed by the doctor is 2 antihistamines and 1 cortisone in case of worsening of hives, and I think it is the right treatment for the case. Your wife is suffering an acute urticaria which means after the treatments she is taking the situation may improve and she won’t have these symptoms anymore. If the situation will persist more than 6 weeks the doctor will suggest blood exams to find a possible cause of her symptoms.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Gjustina Loloci, Allergist and Immunologist
