Are Prednisone And Sinemet Effective In The Treatment Of Parkinson S Disease?
I am an experienced critics nurse and u neighbor s husband has finally diagnosed with Parkinson s. it s been quite obvious to me for some time but I took knths a diagnosis. His wife tells me he is on 160mg Prednisone and will be starting Sinemet this weekend. Does that dose relate to his large size or does it make sense that he would be on it for an extended time? Reading your site on this subject and working with many patients in the ICU getting this drug, i can t say I ever remember this being a treatment for Parkinson s.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
You are very right, in first Prednisone has nothing to do with Parkinson's disease. Secondly, 160 is a very huge dose to be used for extended time. May be she has confused something with some other and had some misconception. Yes, one possibility may be if steroid are for some other disease which he might have on top of his Parkinson's disease for which Sinemet would be a choice.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman
