Are R-cinex And Combutol Advisable For Person With Negative AFB Result?
RESPECTED Doctor, Past two months I have rise in body temperature in night between 8=00pm till 11-30 pm around 99.3 degrees F to 99.9. Doctor advised after conducting chest x-ray and blood tests (chest x ray shows normal esr in blood is 3mm in one hour and other parameters are within specification me to take for 20 days R-cinex 600mg once daily and computol 800mg once daily for twenty days . I n between got sputum culture which shows Klebsiella and negative in sputum for AFB. Now he has added cifron500mg twice a day for seven days. Since AFB IS NEGATIVE, can I with draw R-Cinex and computol 800mg. When there is no AFB growth why should I take R-cinex and computol whch ihad taken for fifteen days KINDLY clarify my doubt. Thanking you, yours truly, K.S.Sundararaman age70 years raman_kss@ yahoo.com
In your case, all the tests are in normal range, but some times seeing your history, a continuous low grade temperature may be due to TB, despite your negative result of sputum for AFB. As your temperature subsided after taking anti-TB drugs for 20 days, further therapeutic trial of anti TB drugs is justified. Thus, I will not advise you to stop anti-tubercular drugs. A course of Cifran for 7 days has been added due to the presence of klebsiella in your sputum which may be added infection besides TB.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
