Are Tylenol And Penicillin The Right Medication For Sharp Pain Around The Anus?

Hi- I have had, for about a week now, sharp pains in the area around my anus. It literally feel like a sat on a cactus and wiggled around on it for a few mins. This is in combination with what is apparently my first case of hemorrhoids. I just got over a severe case of strep throat, where I was prescribed 800mg Tylenol and penacillin. It is so painful, I can hardly move without feeling like my groin is made of razor blades. Is this a normal case of hemorroids? What can I do to finally end this misery?? Thank you!!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for your query.

Tylenol is a pain killer /antipyretic (to reduce fever) and penicillin is an antibiotic given to treat susceptible Infections.

Hemorrhoids can be very painful. Your pain seems to be severe and needs medical attention.
If it is, indeed, a bad case of hemorrhoids, stronger pain medications, locally acting pain relieving gelsgels, sitz bath (a soothing solution) can help with the pain.

It is also important to have a nutritious, balanced diet with adequate fiber content and hydration.
-avoid refined grains, carbonated, sugary drinks.
-limit caffeine to 2 cups a day
-drink at least 3 liters of water a day (unless contraindicated due to a medical issue)
-avoid sitting for long hours. (take frequent breaks, do stretches, go for quick short walks).

If you have any abdominal pain that is severe or have any rectal bleeding, see a doctor right away.

Hope this helps.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Hope you feel better soon
