Are Anti-inflammatories Advisable For Chronic Pain In Teeth?

when I would get a root canal, my dentist would give me vicodin and decadron (I think)...he said the antianflamatory was really helpful in reducing the pain. I had all my upper teeth pulled today, and the oral surgeon prescribed oxycodone......the pain has been rather servere. My question is whether an antianflamatory (like an over the counter aleve or such) would be beneficial, or harmful? I also have diclofenac antianflamtory for a shoulder problem prescribed by my physician, but I m not one to just start mixing drugs......do I just ride out the pain, or is there a safe antianflamatory that would help?

Hi,

As per your complain anti inflammatory painkillers are helpful in reducing pain as well as Inflammation and in case of you have got all your teeth of upper jaw pulled there would be considerable inflammation and pain present that would lead to needing of higher painkillers like Oxycodone.

Secondly you can very much alternatively take anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen or Aleve or Diclofenac to reduce pain and inflammation and it is not harmful. So my suggestion would be that you should continue taking Oxycodone and can in the mid take anti-inflammatory painkiller for relief. Apply numbing gel over the gums to relieve pain.

Hope this information helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thanks and regards,
