Are Antibiotics Advisable For An Infant?

My newborn son is now 12 weeks old. He was first diagnosed with a sinus infection and then they later said that it was an E-Coli infection. They have given him 3 different Antibiotics and nothing worked. So now they want to give him a 4th antibiotic. It seems very odd to be giving a newborn as young as mine so many different antibiotics. What should/can I do?

Hi
After going through your case, you have mentioned that your child has sinus infection.
But I would like to know details of his history ie

1) fever pattern.
2)Any cough, cold, difficulties in feeding.
3) Any other symptoms like refusal to feed, irritability etc.

I would also like to know which three antibiotics have they prescribed.

If your baby is taking feeds well and gaining weight then don't worry much.

I will advise you to do following investigation

Complete blood count with ESR
C reactive protein
Chest xray

If infection seems to be persistent then I will also advise you to do blood culture and sensitivity.
Hope this helps you.
