Are Antibiotics Effective In Treating Vomiting And Stomach Pain In A Child?

My son is 4 1/2 month old. He is restless, having pain in his stomach and vomiting since last 2 days. Zifi 50 mg has been prescribed to him. Should i start antibiotics for him or should wait for observation as the frequency for passing stools is 2 times a day and vomiting is also 1-2 times a day.

Hello,

I really appreciate your concern, it is better to wait for some time and without the confirmation of bacterial infection better not to give the antibiotic in pediatric age. Such symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea or just vomiting may not need antibiotics but vomiting can be managed with Domperidone.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Akhtarhusain
