Is Dependal-m, Biglac Medication Safe At 19th Week Pregnancy?
hi i m having 19th week pregnancy,i have Girdia cyst(occasional ) in my stool examination and sometimes having loose stool and stomach pain before going for stool. Doctor suggested me to take dependal-m for 3 days(2 tablets per day) and biglac for 3 days(1 tablet per day) is it safe for my baby?
Generally Furazolidone and Metronidazole (Both ingredients of Dependal-M), are not recommended during pregnancy, except in conditions, where there is no alternative. Furazolidone may cause harm to the developing heart, kidney or brain of baby. Similarly, metronidazole carries a risk of teratogenicity, pre-term labor or spontaneous abortion.
CDC and FDA approve use of Metronidazole during pregnancy only in condition of bacterial vaginosis. Therefore, use of Dependal-M should be avoided, unless, there is no alternative present and the treatment can not be deferred till delivery.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
