Are Antibiotics The Right Treatment For Mild Fever And Cold In A Toddler?

Hi, My two year old is having mild fever and very slight running nose. Activity level is fine. Though she was taken to a pediatrician, she did not allow herself to be checked(was crying badly). Doctor prescribed babygesic, relent syrup and Azee (antibiotic). I am reluctant to start antibiotic initially itself. Should i wait for a while before starting the antibiotic or just heed the Doctor's advise?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain mild fever and slightly runny nose are signs of viral infection and your daughter is prescribed with antibiotics that are suitable to treat bacterial infection and has no role in case of viral infection..
The other medications that is Babygesic that contains Acetaminophen and is suitable for reducing fever and generalized discomfort as well as Relent cough syrup contains Cetrizine that is anti allergic and will relieve cough and Ambroxol that is mucolytic.
You can continue with these medications and avoid giving her Azee that is Azithromycin antibiotic as she does not need it as of now..
You should also feed her with ample of warm fluids and warm water..
Avoid giving her chilled foods..
Steam inhalation and using a humidifier in her room can help..
Give her sufficient rest for faster relief..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
