Are Blackouts Adverse Effects Of Metoprolol-Tatrate?

My brother had triple by pass surgery about 7 months ago and he was put on the beta blocker Metoprolol-Tatrate 50 mg twice a day. Since then he had two incidents after he was drinking alcohol. The first time he felt like he had blacked out and fell to the ground and dislocated his shoulder. The second time he claimed that he had blacked out when he tried to drive his car. He backed into a gasoline pump and then crossed the street and slammed into a light post. Totaling his car. He was taken to the hospital and he claims he doesn't remember any of this. He woke up in the hospital and the police sited him for DUI and endangerment. They said that he could hardly walk after they took him out of the car. He remembers none of it. Could these be adverse reactions to the beta blocker Metoprolol-tartrate. He is insistent that he only had two drinks and they were mixed drinkd of vodka and soda.
