Are Blood Tests Showing Low Kidney Function A Cause For Concern?

I have had 3 blood tests recently which all of them, my doctor has said show low kidney function. The first showed a reading of 44, the second 39 and the third 42. I am scheduled to see a nephrologist, but am curious as to what these numbers mean. What is a blood test measuring?

hi
You may write the exact report of test done or upload scanned copy to this healthcare magic public forum or to a nephrologist, also detailing the history of illness and symptoms.Broadly, if this reading is of Glomerular fileration rate (GFR) then some more tests like srum creatinine, sodium, K, bicarbonates, urea,BUN,urine analysis for proteins, serum proteins, complete blood count are few baseline tests needed to account for lowered GFR, which is indicative of poor kidney perfusion-causes could be direct from kidney disease or secondary to other disease like CHF , or liver diseases-this has to be clinically evaluated by a clinician physician- so seek a expert opinion....also certain drug treatment course may also lower GFR and so details history is needed
thanks
