Are Bouts Of Diarrhea Normal After Intake Of Prilosec OTC?

I have been suffering from GERD for about a month and my doctor prescribed Prilosec OTC. One 20mg in the morning and one in the evening before dinner. I have been taking this for about a week and the last two days have been experiencing bouts of yellow diarrhea. Is this normal, and should I switch to Zantac? Thank you. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

Prilosec rarely causes diarrhea. But using this drug may reduce stomach acidity that may lead to prone to infection.

If it may contain magnesium may lead to loose stools.

Other possibilities like acute gastroenteritis or food poisoning or food intolerance etc.

Drink plenty of water, use tablet sporulac.

If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
