Are Bulls Eye Type Of Rashes On Calf Suggestive Of Lyme Disease?

i have a bullseye type rash on the back of my calf that is the size of a dime. How do I know if it is lyme disease or ringworm? I noticed it within the past week or two and it started as a pink spot and it has progressed to looking more like a bullseye. It does not itch. I am concerned since my sister has been battling lyme disease for two years now.

Hello,

There are many differentiating points for the calf rashes as:
- Lymes rash will have clear history of bug bite with Ixodes tick, related to highly wooded areas or forests
- Typical central spot with surrounding clearing and circumferential ring is indicative of Lyme, not characteristic of ringworm
- Itching is more pronounced in Ring worm against Lyme
- Associated features of multiple joint involvement are absent in RIng worm
- If the cardiac features of heart block is evident, it is surely Lyme

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
