Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have secondary progressive ms. I have been doing quite well and continue to be fairly independent. My only problem seems to be constipation. Is this one of the symptoms of ms? Recently I tried taking probiotics (50 billion) and I noticed that my stool colour was a dark green, almost black? This is certainly not normal for me. I have not changed my diet but have since stopped the probiotics. Should I have continued them? They didn t help the constipation problem either. What to do?
Solely on the basis of constipation, I would not recommend MS relapse. There can be inherent low functioning of the bowel, nerves with sluggish impulses causing gastroparesis or other issues. High fiber diet with bulk forming laxatives as Ispaghula husk are best remedies for such constipation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
