Are Cyst On Thyroid, Difficulty In Swallowing And Migraine Related?
Hello, I was diagnosed with a cyst on my thyroid, and I was silly and never got it followed up as recommended. All day I have been struggling to swallow and I have a migraine and sore ears. Also feels a bit tight in my throat when I m breathing. Is this related?
Hello, Thank you for asking on HCM! I would try to inform you about the thyroid cyst and it's symptoms. I don't think the migraine is due to thyroid cyst but if the cyst is big it may cause local symptoms due to compression of the adjacent structures. If the nodule is big and compresses the trachea and esophagus, this could explain your symptoms. First of all I would recommend you an ultrasound of the thyroid gland to see if it is a pure cyst or a nodule and to compare the dimensions with the last ultrasound. A hormonal thyroid level would help to find out if the cyst produces access amount of hormones or not. If the doctor finds suspicious elements in ultrasound than he must recommend a cytology of the nodule. Hope the information is helpful.
Kind regards, Dr.M.Guni
