Are Diagnostic Laparoscopy And HSG Dye Test, One Is The Same?
I was told by one of my doctors that diagnostic laparoscopy (dye test) and HSG dye test are the same tests used to check if tubes are open. I was told that the only differences that lapraoscopy is performed under a general anesthesia while the HSG test is not and that I could opt for whatever I was comfortable with. I went for the diagnostic laparoscopy dye test that reflected that my tubes were open. Can you kindly clear if these two tests refer to the same thing? Is it necessary to go for an HSG at this stage? I have been married for about 8 years now and going for my first IVF next month.
Hi I can partly feel the anxiety you might be having, believing to made a wrong decision but believe me you have made the right choice and there is no need for doing the HSG dye test once you got your Diagnostic Laparoscopy(Lap) done. There is slight technical variation in the procedure, in HSG they inject a radio opaque dye and check it by an x-ray if the the dye they injected has reached to the abdomen.Where as in a laparoscopic test they visualize the uterus and tubes with a scope under anesthesia. In recent literature diagnostic lap has been found superior in regards to the chances of conceiving. Hope you are satisfied with the answer. Please feel free for any quarries.
Thanking you Dr Samir
