Are Dizziness, Headache And Nausea Signs Of Heat Exhaustion?

Please tell me if this was a case of heat exhaustion, a 54 year old male was working outside for several hours in temperatures of upper 80s to low 90s with high humidity levels. He is on medication for high blood pressure, blood sugar & is overweight. He suddenly experienced dizziness, severe headache, nausea, cramps in the back of his neck & across his shoulders, his blood pressure dropped dramatically, he was very pale & was cool & clammy to the touch. These symptoms all got better after being at home for a while in the cool temperature of the house & lying down for a while.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

All the symptoms of the man seem typical of heat exhaustion. Their relation with the work outside under high temperatures and improvement after rest in a cool place further confirms this.

On the other hand, he will need to take fluids, frequent small amounts to substitute all the water he lost with sweating and if he can access oral rehydration solutions he will be able to substitute the lost salt with the sweat as well.

If there is no improvement in his condition or if there is any worsening, he will need to be seen by a doctor.

I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,

Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician.
