Are Elevated CPK Levels In Blood A Concern?

My husband has a cpk of 600. Was on atorvastatin for 8 mos but off for a year. He walks on average of 6 miles per day and did so for week prior and doing yard work day before blood test. He takes lisonopril 10 mg and metoprolol 25 mg. Minor leg aches. Very active in construction work for 40 years. He never had a baseline cpk but did test after starting the statin. Went down to 500 when stopped and then a year later went up. Should he see rhumatologist? Thanks

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your clinical history is concerned your husband has a high level of CPK which means he has some internal muscle or tissue injury. This is a non-specific test and clinical correlation is required. So, in my own opinion I may suggest you one thing if he has blood pressure and taking medications for it then take medications regularly. Do take medications for lipid as usual. Do one coronary angiogram test which will rule out if any blockage is present or not.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
