Are Elevated SGPT And SGOT Levels Post Intake Of Voriconazole A Cause For Concern?

Dear Sir, My father has been diaggosed Fungal Pneumonia 28 days before.But proper diagnosis was done 2 weeks before.He is taking voriconazole since last 14 days as 200 mg bd.His SGPT and SGOT level in todays test is found to be 180 and 112.Please suggest me is it dangerous.What should i do.

let's get to the question straight
elevation in hepatic enzymes may be because of sepsis or as a side effect of voriconazole.
elevation in hepatic enzymes is seen in 2 to 4%.
if previous AST and ALT values before starting therapy with voeiconazole were normal then close monitoring and if required dose modification or discontinuation may be done.
serious( rarely) fatal hepatic toxicity is observed.
discuss with your doctor, he will explain you possible reasons for elevated liver enzymes and may decrease dosage or change drug accordingly.
