Are Elevated TSH Levels In A Child A Cause For Concern?
doctor, my baby was born with no thyroid gland. and she is taking eltroxin 50ug since then. now she is 3yrs. her TSH is increasing 8.3(ref upper limit 5), 14.3(8.1) but T4 is hovering around the upper limit ~1.8. for last 6 months. how serious is the situation? should the dose be increased? kindly answer.
Hi, dear I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.
Your baby has no thyroid gland so she needs external thyroid hormone support life long. But her TSH level is slightly high so it suggest that her thyroid replacement is not adequate. She is suffering from hypothyroidism. So dosage of eltroxin need to be increased. It is prescription based medicine so consult your doctor and take treatment accordingly.
