Are Elevated Levels Of Streptococcus Viridans In Urine A Cause For Concern?
I had a Basel cell carcinoma removed from my leg in Oct, got staff in it in Nov. Finally healed in Dec/ Jan. Got a severe bronchitis and UTI the end of Jan. I have undifferentiated autoimmune disease. Went for a check up this week and my urine culture came back 30,000 cfu ml strep Viridans. Do I need to worry or do I need to see a urologist?
UTI cause due to different micro-organisms and when the culture represents such numbers it is always better to get it treated on time. Streptococcus viridians is definitely one of those bacteria that can lead to further trouble if not treated on time.
Do not panic as with appropriate dosage of antibiotics the infection will be cured. So, my advice to you is, as you have a significant medical history, it is necessary that you visit a urologist soon.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Manisha Auradkar, General & Family Physician
