Are Esophagogastroscopy And Colonoscopy Necessary While Having Low Ferritin Levels?
Hi ,I have normal iron and hemoglobin, but low ferritin. My doctor referred me to a GI specialist. The specialist wanted to give me upper and lower GI scope. . Actually I am energetic every day and don t have any symptom about anemia. I am almost 42 and the period is sometimes heavy. I know iron deficiency has been a long-time problem for me since I was pregnant seventeen years ago. Is it necessary for me to have esophagogastscopy and colonoscopy? I am really scared of the test.
If you don't have any gastrointestinal symptoms there is no need to do the endoscopy. You don't have stomach pain or blood in stools. Get checked for blood in stools doing occult blood test in feces. Consult your gynecologist for your heavy period because it can be related to iron deficiency.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
