hi am wafaa my son 13.5 y.o is short ( 3rd centile ) me and his dad are short . shall i give growth hormone injections or there is s.e on the future ? knowing that he has no medical problems what so ever and all investigations done by doctors are normal . he has hair and secondary things of puberty but not yet fully . my daughter is also short she is 11.7 and healthy too and not reached puberty still . sha has hair underarms and ... thanks
The benefit of starting growth hormone at this age, especially after the onset of puberty is not that great when compared to the cost and the trouble of having daily injections. Usually GH is started at an earlier age preferably before 10 yrs.
You should do a growth hormone stimulation tests and IGF-1 level estimation before starting on treatment. Long term side effects are not that may- rarely can have some bone deformities.
