Are Heart Palpitations And Squeezing Pain In Chest Serious?

I had what appears to have been palpitations this morning, accompanied with what seemed my chest was getting twisted, I felt my heart was going to burst. My pharmacist checked my blood pressure, 156/120. This was carried out twice more. Two hours after the palpitations started lasting 7 minutes, should I be concerned? Thank you. Mary m

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your diastolic blood pressure is 120 mmHg and this is quite high so it is important for you to have a visit with your doctor to confirm if the blood pressure is still high or not and also have your heart checked (have ECG done and a heart ultrasound). Palpitations with chest pain should be followed with a good examination and some tests to rule out problems with the heart and lungs as well especially in the terrain of high blood pressure.

I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj,
