Are Heaviness In Chest And Breathlessness Due To Anxiety?
Hi. Over the last couple of weeks I ve been experiencing a heaviness in my chest and slight breathlessness after doing light exercise like walking upstairs. I m 41 with 2 boys age 1 and 3, both born by caesarean. I was pretty fit before the boys and even though I don t exercise regularly, I am always on the go as I am a stay at home mum at the moment. My dentist recently observed that I grind my teeth and hold my breath unconsciously. Could this be anxiety related?
I can understand your concern. Yes, grinding teeth, heavy chest and breathlessness are all symptoms of anxiety.Probably being a mom at home and always being on the go is causing this anxiety.
You need to calm down and give yourself some time to relax. Try to find some time for your hobbies. You can also join yoga or meditation classes. You can learn stress breaking breathing exercises there that can really help. If none of this works, you can consult a mental health professional and take counselling sessions. He may also prescribe you some anxiolytics for some time.
I hope this answer helps. Thank you for chooaing HCM.Take care.
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
