Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Are Heavy Bleeding And Longer Periods While On Copper IUD A Cause For Concern?
I have a copper IUD and typically my periods are mostly normal and regular. Since i ve had the IUD my periods have been extremely heavy, but still typically only last a week. (I ve switch to super plus tampons and soak a 2-3 in a 5 hour timeframe at the heaviest) However, this current cycle has lasted almost a month and I experienced what might have been a uterine shed. Should I be concerned? Should I have the IUD removed? Do I need to see a doctor?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I have read the description you have posted and understand your concern. It appears that heavy bleeding and bleeding for longer periods of time what you are experiencing could be caused due to the side effect of IUD. You need to definitively review about this at the earliest by consulting Gynecologist and switch over to some other mode of contraception which could suit you. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
