Are High Levels Of Liver Enzymes A Cause For Concern?
My family doctor told me my liver enzymes are high. They are in the 260s he did do blood work to rule out heps and a couple other things and now he is doing nothing. I have been told by my lung specialist that these numbers are concerning. Are they indeed concerning? Is so what should I do?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. High levels of liver enzymes is definitely a concern. It states that you could be having one of the following possibilities: 1. Hepatitis caused by viral infection like Hepatitis A/B/C Virus. 2. Hepatitis caused by toxic effects of substances like alcohol (alcoholic liver disease) or drugs used for medication (drug-induced hepatitis) 3. Secondary deposition of cancerous cells from a primary cancer elsewhere in the body. Hence, the next step would be to do an imaging investigation like ultrasound abdomen to find out what could be the cause. You might also require other investigations done on blood and CT scan. Kindly consult Physician with the report for clinical evaluation and management accordingly. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
