Thanks for asking to HCM.I understand your concern.
Brief Answer : Not usually..Yes,
Lymphocyte and Neutrophil counts are reversed
Detailed Answer:
Yes as your doctor suspects,
Chronic Leukemia may be a possibility but you should not be worried much until any proven diagnosis is made.
If i am your physician, would ask for the following information and investigation reports for good opinion.
1)How old are you ? as risk of Leukemia increases with age
2)Since when are you feeling sick ? any history of recurrent infections ?--Symptoms usually present gradually over years and recurrent infections are high likely in patients with abnormal lymphocytes.
3)Any Palpable enlarged lymph nodes for long time ? As in leukemia, normal lymph node cells might be replaced by atypical lymphocytes.
4)Complete Hemogram and Serum Ferritin,
Transferrin receptor index, total iron binding capacity? Anemia in chronic leukemia usually not due to
iron deficiency but rather
bone marrow failure.So
Anemia of Chronic disease may be a possibility.
In my opinion investigations like
Lymph node biopsy ,Flow Cytometry,Bone marrow aspiration biopsy can be carried out to exclude possibility of Leukemia after getting opinion from your treating physician.Be positive and have hope,as this can even be lot of other things like chronic viral infection or any other chronic systemic illness too.Hope this information helps you.If any further questions, wish to assist you.Wish you good health.Take care
