Are Iron Injections Advisable While Having Low Hemoglobin Levels?
Hi Doctor My fiance age is 18 years old she is having irregular periods and when she took a blood test her hemoglobin lever is 6.1 and doctor ask to get 2 iron injection.. but i read that is causes death and more problems.. i don t believe her doctor i don t even believe that she is having a valid doctor digree i am the one who is asking my fiance parents to don t get a iron injection for her.. i want to know is it safe ?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Hemoglobin below 7 g% is considered to be severely anaemic and is best treated with iron injections. You are under the wrong notion that iron injections would cause such type of problems. Intake of any medication or injection would carry certain amount of risk and could cause side effects. But, when proper precautions are taken, such side effects can be minimized. It would be advisable for you to go in for iron infusions, which are administered through vein slowly along with careful monitoring. Along with it, she needs oral supplementation in the form of tablets as well as intake of iron rich foods. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
