Are Itchy Pimples On The Face Indicative Of Allergic Reaction?

Hello my name is Vyri, On Sunday my husband and I decided to put up a backsplash on our kitchen. On Monday morning we did the grout portion and everything seemed fine I was touching the grout and nothing seemed to happen right away. The next day Tuesday morning I noticed tiny bumps on my cheeks and some on my chin. It didn t seemed bad and it wasn t itchy but on Wednesday morning my face was completely covered with tiny, itchy bumps some pop like tiny pimples they were are all over my face neck and ears. I went to the pharmacy and bought cordizone but it doesn t really relieve the itch. My husband said it was an allergic reaction to the grout. My question is what can i do? Is this an allergic reaction? and if it is, how long is this going to stay on my face and should I go to the doctor or wait a couple more days?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since you had been working on kitchen backsplash and had been touching grout, you may get allergic reactions if you have sensitive skin. Clean your skin with a medicated face wash or medicated soap. Then apply a thin layer of corticosteroid cream on the area affected. You can also apply a thin layer of hydrocortisone cream mixed in calamine lotion on the area affected to get relieve from itching.

Do not touch or scratch. You can take antihistamines orally to stop itching and swelling. Cold compression is quite effective. Your symptoms will get reduced in 12 hours but it may take 7-10 days for rashes to go completely. You may consult a dermatologist in the meantime.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
