Hello, and I hope I can answer your question today.
It sounds like you are clearly allergic to the Pronrogest (or one of it's ingredients) whether it is in suppository form or the injectable.
Progesterone supplementation is give routinely to women who do IVF, but there are also oral forms you can take that your doctor can discuss with you. They are not absolutely essential however, because if you do conceive successfully, your ovaries should make progesterone anyway and the supplementation is only an added precaution.
In the meantime, you can safely take
Benadryl (
Diphenhydramine) 50mg which will make you drowsy, but is much stronger than Claritin. It should help the rash go down and you also can apply 1%
Hydrocortisone cream (availabe over-the-counter as
first aid for bug bites, rashes and such). Oral steroids like
Prednisone are safe during
pregnancy and can help too.
I would discuss whether or not you need further progesterone supplementation with your IVF doctor, but I hope in the meantime that the oral Benadryl and hydrocortisone cream help your itching.
If you find that you ever are having trouble breathing, please go to the emergency room as severe drug allergies can even cause your throat to close.
I hope I was able to adequately answer your question and that my advice was helpful. Best of luck and I hope you conceived successfully, Dr. Brown
